Yat Ga Yan One Family
Sifu Ed Nguyen 阮世雄
Ed has been involved in martial arts since 1981. While growing up in Massachusetts, he studied Kempo Karate which utilized a blend of the harder Japanese and the softer Chinese arts. As a teenager, he placed first for forms and kata in several regional tournaments. His studies at Harvard and Johns Hopkins for anesthesiology required that he take a hiatus from martial arts studies. However, as soon has his two young boys were old enough, he sought out a martial arts school for his family. In 2007, he met Sifu Derek Johnson and began his journey in Kung Fu. After 8 years, he became an instructor and a co-owner of the Jow Ga Kung Fu Athletic Association. Along with Joel Braxton and Alex Lim, he was recognized in 2014 as a disciple of the Jow Ga Kung Fu system. In 2015, he branched out to help form U.S. Jow Ga Martial Arts - all while continuing to practice medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Ed prides himself in being able to inspire in others the traditional values of Kung Fu. He works especially well with teens and young adults to show them the way of respect, humility, loyalty, honor, kindness and discipline that are necessary to become not only good martial artists, but great human beings.
