Si Hing Eric Lam - Junior Coach
Entering US Jow Ga Martial Arts allowed multiple interests to stick together, such as learning a style of Kung fu, learning the traditions of Lion Dance, and meeting a community that cares about the students and engaging with their families. Rising from a small Krav Maga Background, Eric and his sister, Emily, discovered Jow Ga through a neighboring friend with many years in the school. Finding an activity to maintain fitness was always dynamic, as most activities would stop after a loss of interest.
Jow Ga shaped Eric’s teaching philosophy through normal classes, the instructors maintaining a simple but detailed view on each movement and action required. When asked by another student for advice for a certain movement, he thought back to how the instructors taught the movement to him, allowing an adaptive set of strategies to help the student in need. Eric’s current accomplishments and achievements consist of being a member of the newly formed US Jow Ga Leadership team, as well as earning 2 gold medals during his attempts in experiencing tournaments. He is also the main drummer and adaptive musician in the Lion dance group. Currently, Eric contributes to the school by making available time to support lion dances as the drummer as well as supporting students in preparing their forms for tournaments. Outside of US Jow Ga Martial Arts, Eric effectively applies similar teaching techniques to his academic pursuits, aiding classmates who struggle to grasp concepts and fostering efficient communication within group work settings. |
