Growing up in many parts different of Maryland, Steven has trained in many different Tae Kwon Do schools. Tired of moving all the time and starting over at every Tae Kwon Do school, he took a hiatus from martial arts to focus on school. It was not very long when he found a new hobby in stagecraft; designing and building sets as well as running shows at his High School Theatre. But that was not enough, he wanted to do something else. Chinese New Year 2007, Steven was at Hunan Legend getting take out when he stumbled upon a lion dance troupe performing a traditional lion dance.
After much contemplation, Steven decided to seek out and join the kung fu school and lion dance troupe in the latter part of 2007. Still unsure whether kung fu was what he really wanted to do, he stayed and continued to train because he knew there was something special about the school and the people in it. “I stayed for the Family, the Kung Fu came later” Steven said. After high school graduation in 2011, Steven got very involved in the school from doing lion dance, fixing the lions, coaching kids classes, and even competing in a few tournaments. In 2015 Steven, branched out with Sifu Ed and Sifu Alex in opening U.S. Jow Ga Martial Arts. Now, Steven continues to train his kung fu but, In his spare time you can find him running his financial advising firm, dancing or just hanging out with his kung fu family. Steven has a passion for lion dance and enjoys working with the kids and teens to show them the true meaning of Kung Fu and what puts the “Ga” (family) in Jow Ga. |
