Si Hing Colin Murray
Colin started his journey in martial arts after finding interest through his father who trained in kung fu and lion dance. Jow Ga offered training in both, along with a welcoming environment. When he started at Jow Ga at 8 years old, he enjoyed the sense of family the school embraced. He is constantly challenged to do his best, which motivates him to work harder on his training in all aspects of kung fu and lion dance. A remarkable achievement of Colin's was earning two gold medals at the Kuoshu tournament in Hunt Valley, Maryland. Colin was also intrigued by the fact that this school had a lion dance curriculum, which he was familiar with from his Chinese culture and was interested in the background of why it was practiced. Now, Colin participates on the lion dance team at Jow Ga and goes to performances regularly when held. He feels that Jow Ga teaches you martial arts as well as discipline, respect, kindness, and other essential qualities to be a well functioning member of society. He is inspired by his peers as well as his teachers to try his hardest in not only kung fu but in other parts of his life. He also helps out in classes when needed to demonstrate a technique or encourage his classmates. Jow Ga has been a great experience for Colin and he enjoys working with both kid and adult students, and will continue to teach others along their kung fu journey.
